Eco Center Seminar: New Perspectives in Integrated Pest Management

On October 5th, 2024, Eco Center participated in a seminar held in Istanbul, Türkiye, focused on presenting detailed information about the use of MD Protect TA for controlling Tuta absoluta in greenhouses. The event was organized in collaboration with Cansa Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi, a local distributor, and brought together agronomists, managers, and company representatives.

MD Protect TA is a pheromone-based product designed to control Tuta absoluta, a pest known for causing severe damage to tomato crops. It works by releasing pheromones that interfere with the males' ability to locate females, leading to a reduction in pest populations and minimizing crop damage.

The interest in MD Protect TA in Türkiye is significant, as there is a pressing need to adopt environmentally friendly and effective methods for pest control in greenhouses. This integrated pest management technology aims to reduce the use of conventional pesticides, promoting a more sustainable approach to agriculture.

Discussions during the seminar focused on key aspects to maximize the effectiveness of this innovative product. Participants emphasized the importance of continuous monitoring of the tomato leafminer population using monitoring traps to assess pest pressure and adjust treatments as needed. Additionally, it was emphasized that the uniform application and optimal density of MD Protect TA dispensers are critical factors for achieving maximum efficacy in pest control.

In conclusion, Tuta absoluta is an extremely challenging pest that quickly develops resistance to many traditional insecticides. Therefore, the application of pheromone mating disruption products like MD Protect TA offers a viable and effective solution to mitigate the negative effects of these pests on tomato crops. Careful monitoring and correct application of this product can significantly reduce reliance on insecticides, thus contributing to an eco-friendlier approach to agriculture.
