Tuta Protect®

Tuta Protect® plant protection product against (Tuta absoluta) tomato leafminer. Mating disruption is a tool that involves the overstimulation of Tuta absoluta male pests with deployment of pheromones via Tuta Protect® dispensers, causing males to follow “false pheromone trails”, therefore interfering with mate finding behaviour.

Product Description

Mating disruption is a tool that involves the overstimulation of Tuta absoluta male pests with deployment of pheromones via Tuta Protect® dispensers, causing males to follow “false pheromone trails”, therefore interfering with mate finding behavior.

Using Tuta Protect® is an environmentally sound method to protect crops that is safe for humans and pets.

The carrier is a MD dispenser that contains active substances, that ensures a uniform release of a pheromone.

When to use

Prior to the emergence of the first generation, it is recommended to install 300 Tuta Protect® dispensers, each with an expected field life of 160-180 days.
For an effective control strategy, utilize 2-4 Delta traps per hectare along with Tuta absoluta lures for monitoring purposes and early detection of infestations.

MD dispenser baited with pheromone composition.

Longevity

With optimal weather conditions (from 20°C – 35°C) MD dispensers can be used for 20-25 weeks once opened.

How to use

  • We recommend monitoring pest emergence by deploying 2-4 Delta traps per hectare, with Tuta absoluta lures. Each trap should be placed 1-1,5 m above the ground. By graphing the total numbers of the pest caught in your traps on each monitoring day, you can determine the level of pest pressure.
  • Use gloves to take out the Tuta Protect® from its foil, right before it will be deployed.
  • Place the MD dispenser following the instructions.
  • Regular, careful monitoring for signs of crop damage is imperative to ensure that your site is protected. This can help you determine if additional control measures are needed and the best timing for them. We suggest using Agrolls Yellow and/or Card Cue Yellow as additional pest management tools.

Positioning

Place the MD Dispensers at the alternating heights of 1 m and 1,5 m, keeping them at least 5-6 metres apart.

300 Tuta Protect® dispensers should be deployed for every hectare.

Storing

Dispensers should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight. For conservation of dispensers for longer periods of time it is recommended to refrigerate the product, thus extending their expiration date to 24 months.

Replacement

Replace dispensers every 20-25 weeks. Please keep in mind that the disposal of the old dispensers should be done away from the monitoring/MD treatment area, to avoid interference with the pest management process.

Precautions

Handle carefully. Even though this substance is not harmful to humans and the environment, it is advised to use gloves when handling the product and wash hands thoroughly after handling the dispensers.

Suitable Items

Agrolls Yellow BIODEGRADABLE

Agrolls Yellow are used mainly in greenhouses to capture Tuta absoluta, Bemisia tabaci and Drosophila suzukii.
This trap should bе deployed in areas with present or anticipated high pest prevalence.
These areas should allow proper airflow, for example along ventilation sections, doors, in between columns or other structural elements, etc.
Pests are attracted to the yellow color of the sticky tape, thus getting caught in the glue.
This trapping device, used in greenhouses, is in the form of a yellow sticky tape roll, pre-coated on both sides with an entomological adhesive.
Agrolls uses visual cue (yellow color) to attract, monitor and capture of pest insects.

This trap is 100% biodegradable.

Card Cue Yellow

This biodegradable adhesive trap, in the shape of a card, contains entomological adhesive on both sides and is a reliable and efficient choice to monitor a variety of pest insects, such as Tuta absoluta, Bemisia tabaci, Ceratitis capitata.

Card Cue uses proven visual attractant (yellow color) to draw pest insects towards the adhesive surface of the trap.
Card Cue Yellow allows its users to assess the level of pest pressure, understand pest lifecycle, as well as determine the necessity for further pest management actions.

Delta Plastic trap White (with insert)

Delta Plastic trap White is a great monitoring trap that allows to make a quick estimation of Lepidoptera pests population in orchards, greenhouses, vineyards etc. This trap is easy to assemble and use, and is both durable and cost-efficient.

A target insect lure must be used within the trap, to attract the pests into the trap to land on the adhesive surface of the sticky insert, that is provided together with the trap.

Tuta absoluta lures

Tuta absoluta lure is a component of an insect trapping device, that uses pheromones to lure tomato leafminer, that most commonly feeds on tomato, but can also attack eggplant, pepper, tobacco etc., into a trap.

The lure, in the form of the rubber dispenser, containing Tuta absoluta pheromone, must be placed in a pheromone trap to be fully functional (traps can be bought separately or in kits with lures).

Using such pheromone lures is an economic, environmentally sound approach to either monitor or trapp these pests.

The lures in the traps must be replaced every 4-6 weeks to keep attraction rates high.

Shelf life - up to 2 years (optimum conditions).
